Home Theater for the Holidays
No matter how old or how young, toys are perfect for everyone on your wish list. The kind of toys that play action movies in HD or blare sound in perfect pitch. We’re talking home theater here. And it’s a surefire path to a very, happy holiday.

O, There’s No Place Like Home Theater for the Holidays
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. And like a 25-story parade float, your aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and third cousins twice removed are coming your way. To celebrate. To feast. To watch TV. Whether it’s college football or the Thanksgiving Day Parade, there will be much TV watching in the coming weeks. Both to come in out of the cold and to nurse that turkey-induced coma. So, if you’ve been thinking about converting your living room into a home theater, now is the perfect time to do it.

Give yourself a movie theater for the holidays

People pay extra money to see a movie in a theater because of the large, clear picture and surround sound system. To recreate the movie theater experience in your den, you need a television, surround sound speakers, a receiver and a DVD player.

You’ve got lots of options when it comes to the television. If you’re a broadcast TV-watching family, a smooth plasma screen HD number is probably best. Dedicated cinephiles will want the projector and screen setup. And then there’s the surround sound system. You’ll need to decide how many speakers you want and where to place them for optimal auditory experience. But if words like output, receiver and subwoofer send you into hiding, have no fear. Geek Squad can help.

Leave the tangled wires to us

First, we come by to consult on the project. Tell you what equipment best fits your budget and room architecture. Plan how to best integrate a home theater into your décor and living space. Find out what your home theater will be used for – movies, TV, gaming or all three at the same time. Then, we install everything. Mount speakers. Hang flat-screen TVs. Hide wires. We even program the remote and set the picture quality. And long after the visiting family finally detaches from the TV and you get your favorite seat back from that third cousin twice removed – we’ll maintain your home theater. Keep it healthy, happy and ready for many more family Thanksgivings and holiday seasons.

From G.S.I. Hilleren
Technical Training Manager
Richfield, MN

G.S.I. Hilleren started out installing home theaters and now trains Geek Squad installers. He has his own home theater system and says he simply can’t watch regular, non-HD television anymore. He especially likes watching football on his home theater. "I almost prefer being at home to being at the game," he muses.

According to Hilleren, the best part of the installation process is the reaction of new home theater owners. "Especially with HD, they are just amazed at the picture quality." He goes on to talk about what he calls the wow factor. “Their jaws drop when they see that they can get an awesome picture and not have to look at all the AV gear.” Which is tech talk for what you get when all the ugly wires and receivers are hidden.

Finally, Hilleren recommends the DVD that maximizes the features of a home theater: the Planet Earth Discovery Channel series played on a Blu-ray Disc player.
