RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. You may have also heard the terms Web Feed, XML, RDF or ATOM.

Why Use RSS?
Who has time to visit a site and consistently check it everyday for new news and information? That usually never happens. You may bookmark this site and come back to visit only in a crisis. RSS gives you the ability to sign up for content and have it sent to you. RSS is great for when you want to find out the latest tech tips and happenings from Geek Squad as we post them.

How to Use RSS
Step 1: Get a News Aggregator

You can use RSS to create a kind of personal newspaper, delivered with information on subjects you're interested in. The tool that allows you to pull this information is called a news aggregator. You’ll need to install a program to view a web feed correctly using Windows.

Once one of the aggregators is installed, you're ready to subscribe to content. Subscribing is easy.


You can subscribe to RSS feeds a number of ways, including:

  • Drag the or XML button from the site you wish to subscribe into your News Reader
  • Drag the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader
  • Cut and paste the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader
