Simply visit www.Skype.com and sign up for an account. Enter in your personal information, click on I agree to create your account. Once this is done, download the Skype software and install it on your PC or Mac.
When running Skype for the first time you'll be prompted to login. To do so, enter in the username and password from when you first created your Skype account.
The first time you run Skype it'll prompt you to test the hardware and make a call to ensure it's working properly. It's important to make sure you can call, See and be seen before sharing your user name with family and friends. To make calls to friends and family, click add a contact and enter in your desired context information, usually an email address or an existing Skype name. Now that you have contacts added to your list you can send messages that chat, make an audio call or talk to them face to face via a video call.
