Photo Touchup
2 Minute Miracle

OBJECTIVE

Remove redeye and make sure your pictures are social media ready.

INTRODUCTION

In previous 2 Minute Miracles, we showed you how to transfer pictures from your digital camera to your Mac or PC. Today, we’ll show you how to remove red eye and make some other simple edits to your pictures in Windows 7 Media Center. There is nothing more frustrating than posting a picture to Facebook with redeye.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  1. A PC running Windows 7 Media Center or Ultimate.
  2. A photo in need of editing

PROCEDURE

  1. Click on the Start button (bottom left hand side of your Desktop usually), and then click on “All Programs."
  2. Select “Windows Media Center”
  3. Next, scroll up to “Pictures + Video” and click on “Picture Library”
  4. Scroll to the folder your photo is stored in and click on it.
  5. Mouse over the photo you wish to edit and click on it.
  6. Right click on the picture, once it loads, and select “Picture Details” from the pop-up menu.
  7. On the “Pictures Details” screen, select “Touch Up” and perform one or more of the following options:

Red Eye – meant to reduce the red eye of the subjects in the picture. You would click on this and follow the directions to select the eyes of the subject to adjust the red eye.

Contrast – meant to darken or lighten the photo through adjusting the slider bars that appear when you click on this option

Crop – used to used adjust the edge of the photo so that you only get a certain area of the photo by using the arrow and zoom in/zoom out buttons to adjust the viewable area.

NOTE: Before you finalize changes, you can click on “Preview” to see how your changes have affected the photo. If you are happy with your changes you can hit “ESC” on your keyboard or click on the back arrow to return to the touch up screen where you can then click on “Save”. You will be prompted to apply changes, click yes to do so.
