INTRODUCTION
In another 2 Minute Miracle, we went over how to connect your camera to your PC and have it automatically download those pictures. In some instances, that may not be what you want do to if you want to group things into different subjects, say, graduation pictures into one folder and another special event into a different folder. Today we will go over how to do that.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- An digital camera
- A PC running Windows 7, Vista, or XP
- Your camera's PC sync cable
PROCEDURE
You will need to connect your camera to your PC with its cables. Normally you will have one of three different cables. The method is simple: plug one end of the cable into your camera, and the other end into the computer. Typically, these cables will have a full size computer connection on one end and a smaller camera connection on the other.
- Firewire cable: uncommon in modern cameras.
- Micro USB cable
- Mini USB cable
Most cameras, once plugged in, will automatically be recognized by your PC. If this does not occur, you will need ot install the software included with the camera.
- The “Auto Play” window should pop up and you can select “Open device to view files.”
- Drill down through the folders to get to the pictures on the camera.
- The next step is to highlight the photos you want to download. Simply left click and hold, start at the edge, and highlight the pictures you want.
- Now you can right click and choose “copy” or select copy from the pull down menu.
- Now we need to drill down to the “Pictures” folder on your computer to create a folder to hold the pictures from this event.
- Right click inside of “Pictures” and choose “Create New Folder”.
- Name the folder something easy to remember so that you can find these pictures later.
- Open up the folder, right click again, and choose “Paste”, or click the “Paste” option in the drop down menu.
Once you are finished, you may disconnect the camera from the PC.
